Driving Mode on your phone
Prop your phone on the dash and Driving Mode turns it into a small instrument cluster for your own records. It reads the phone's motion sensors and GPS, plays from your shelf, and talks when you ask it to. If your car has CarPlay, that's a separate thing: CarPlay in the car.
How do I start a drive?
Kebab (3 dots) > Driving opens Driving Mode. The first screen asks "Where are we headed?". Tap Adaptive (the Clerk picks from the road and the weather), tap a feel like Road Trip, or tap the orb and say what you want.
It runs in the iPhone and Android apps. On a computer you get a message that Driving Mode runs on your phone, because there are no motion sensors to read.
What's on the screen?
Three views, all free: G-Force, Cover and Speedo. Swipe, or tap the dots, to switch. Each one is in The three lenses.
Can I talk to it?
Tap the orb and talk to the Clerk. What it hears, what it does with the music, and the monthly limit on free accounts are in Talking to the Clerk in the car.
Will it warn me about traffic?
Yes. It speaks up about a crash, a closure or building traffic ahead, and about severe weather. When it speaks and when it stays quiet, plus the Last.fm switch for what you play on a drive: Traffic and weather alerts, and Last.fm scrobbles.
What happens when I get there?
The Clerk tells you which record you drove like, picked from your own collection. It never shows distance or location. The drawing of the route is abstract on purpose.
To play music you need Apple Music or Tidal. Apple Music does more.
