What Marquee is

Marquee is a spare phone or tablet propped up by your turntable. It listens to the room, works out which record from your shelf is playing, and shows it with big cover art. You don't tap anything while the record plays.

What does Marquee do?

  • Listens through the mic (in the iPhone and Android apps) and works out the record on the platter. Recognition is Apple's Shazam, and the screen says so.
  • Logs the spin to your Spin History.
  • Scrobbles to Last.fm, if you've connected it.
  • Adds the album's running time to your mounted cartridge's stylus hours.
  • Between records it rotates a clock, the weather, picks from your shelf and a QR code.

Where does it run?

  • iPhone and Android apps: everything, mic included. The phone can sit sideways here. On a phone, Marquee and a live drive are the only places the app turns.
  • Web (app.gatefold.fm): you can open Marquee, but it doesn't listen. It shows what you spin on another device within about ten seconds.

How do I open it?

Kebab (3 dots) > Marquee, or go straight to Marquee. The first time, a four-step guide runs. It's free.
