How Spin of the Day works

Spin of the Day is the front door of the app: one record from your own shelf, picked for a reason you can read. What you log there feeds your Spin History, and Last.fm if you've connected it.

What is Spin of the Day?

Every day the Spin tab shows one record from your shelf. It's a suggestion, not a play. Nothing is logged until you tell the app you put it on.

Why did it pick that record?

Under the credits there's a line saying why. It might be an artist's birthday, an anniversary, the weather, a record you added recently, or one of your grails. When nothing lines up, it says it pulled the record at random.

  • An album you've spun in the last 30 days doesn't come back.
  • A shelf set to Keep out of spins is skipped too. That's set on Shelves.
  • Ratings don't change the pick. A 5 won't make a record turn up more often.

What do the buttons do, left to right?

  • Play streams the album through Apple Music or Tidal if you've connected one. Without one you get a 30-second preview.
  • Spin logs it as played. That's the tap that counts for your Spin History, and for Last.fm if you've connected it. Play and Spin are separate on purpose.
  • The Kebab (3 dots) on the card has Flex art, Your ratings, Edit Notes, Shelve…, Ask the Clerk and View pressing. Flex art makes a share card from the record.
  • Eject, at the end, opens the tracklist and credits.

The small ratings line on the card opens the same rating sheet as the menu. The menu only shows for a record you own.

What else is there for listening?

What's a Residency?

  • A multi-night themed set list in place of the single daily pick. It's MOSH. Free accounts get the daily pick only.
