Gatefold on every screen, phone to 6K
One account, one shelf, from the phone in your pocket to a 6K monitor, the TV and the car.
Which phones does it run on?
The iPhone and Android apps, and app.gatefold.fm in any phone browser. The apps do what a browser can't: Listen, Marquee listening and Driving Mode.
On a phone the app stays upright, except Marquee and a live drive, which turn with the phone.
Does it work on a tablet?
Yes. On an iPad, an Android tablet or an unfolded foldable it rotates freely everywhere, and the layout widens to fit.
What about a big monitor?
The layout keeps growing with the window, well past laptop width. The shelf goes from 2 columns on a phone to 7 on a wide window, carousels get bigger, and from about 1,700px wide the album's art viewer opens two pages side by side, like a gatefold sleeve.
On a 5K or 6K monitor (about 3,000px wide after your text size) it switches to a wall layout: a rail down the left with Spin, Shelf, Add, Want, the menu and the Clerk, and the player in its own column on the right. The cover grid there sets its columns from your screen's pixel density so covers stay sharp.
Will covers look sharp on a high-DPI screen?
Covers load at 600px everywhere, and the art viewer asks for 1,200px when it can get it. For a record you own, Gatefold shows the photo of your pressing, even when a sharper photo of a different pressing exists. Discogs photos top out at 600px.
Where does the Clerk go on a big screen?
From 1,280px wide, the Clerk opens as a side panel next to the page, so you can keep browsing while he talks. It has Expand panel and Collapse panel, and on a Mac ⌘J opens it. On a tablet he's a floating card, and on a phone a full-height sheet.
Is there a TV app?
Yes, for Apple TV and for Android TV and Google TV. It puts your shelf on the big screen. To sign in, the TV shows a code and a QR. Scan the QR with your phone, or open Sign in your TV and type the six-character code. The code stops working after ten minutes. There's no password to type on the TV.
And in the car?
CarPlay on iPhone, or Driving Mode on a phone propped on the dash, iPhone or Android.
Can I make the text bigger?
Kebab (3 dots) > Settings > Text size: Smaller, Default, Larger or Largest. It's per device, so your desktop can be denser and your phone larger. It changes straight away. Marquee keeps its own size.
Gatefold also follows your phone's own text size. On iPhone, Larger Text makes it bigger, up to a cap so the layout holds. On Android it follows the system font size.
Is it the same shelf everywhere?
Yes. Sign in the same way on each one (an email code, Google or Apple) and your shelf and wantlist are there. Theme and text size stay with each device.
